Description
Explore the materials, structural reinforcements and manufacturing details behind every major component of the MX PLUS Carrier.
- Hitch Tube: Built from genuine BlueScope 2″ square steel tubing (3⁄16″ wall).
- Heavy-Duty Structural Connections: Industrial 3-phase production welding secures the 4mm (0.157″) structural steel mounting plates directly to the hitch tube, serving as rock-solid connection points for the Bike Track assembly.
- Premium Grade 8 Hardware: Assembled strictly with Grade 8 fasteners—the standard for heavy machinery and military applications—ensuring maximum shear strength.
- Industrial Finish: Pretreated with an abrasive media blast, followed by a premium, dual-layer (two-step) industrial powder coat for ultimate chip and corrosion resistance.
- Rectangular Tube Center Section: (Powdercoated X15 Ripple Orange) 5″ × 2.5″ × 0.165″ wall 6061-T6 aluminum. This high-strength structural alloy is the industry standard for aerospace framework, marine applications, and heavy-duty machinery.
- Aluminum Tire Containment Plates: Manufactured from 4mm (0.157″) 5005-H34 aluminum, these precision-formed side plates help keep the motorcycle centred during loading by preventing the tyres from leaving the track. Their rigid construction provides excellent durability while accommodating a wide range of motorcycle tyre sizes.
- One-Piece Steel Front Wheel Chock: Precision laser-cut and CNC-formed from 3mm (0.118″) MS250 structural steel, this one-piece wheel chock bolts directly to the Rectangular Tube Center Section to create a simple, rigid, and highly durable structure. The integrated design accurately positions the front wheel during loading while providing secure tyre containment.
- Adjustable Wheelbase Positioning: The Front Wheel Chock can be repositioned towards the centre of the carrier to suit shorter wheelbase motorcycles. Two additional Tire Stop mounting holes provide a second level of adjustment, allowing the tyre stop to be positioned further rearward for accurate front wheel positioning and secure support during loading.
- Five Strategically Positioned Tie-Down Points: Provide secure attachment options for a wide range of motorcycles. Two front eyelets are mounted on the angled support bar, while three rear tie-down points are integrated into the hitch tube. This layout delivers excellent strap geometry while minimizing holes in the structural hitch tube to preserve maximum strength.
- Optimized Strap Angles: Unlike systems that secure the motorcycle at the extreme front or rear of the track, Rack N Ride’s tie-down points are engineered around the structural hitch tube—the strongest part of the carrier. Positioning the tie-downs close to the carrier’s primary load path minimizes twisting forces on the Motorcycle Track while creating strap angles approaching 90°, providing exceptional stability during transport.
- Vehicle-Assisted Tie-Down: For maximum stability, the inside straps can also be attached directly to your vehicle’s trailer safety chain attachment points. Securing the motorcycle to the vehicle rather than solely to the carrier reduces movement and creates an exceptionally stable transport system.
Choosing the Right Options for your Rack N Ride MX PLUS Carrier
To ensure the perfect fit for your vehicle please consider the following options.
Please note that if an optional extra sizing is chosen, the standard item size is no longer included.
Optional Main Bar Sizes to match larger hitch receivers
- 2.5″ Square Bar for Class 5 receivers i.e. Ram 2500 – add $300
- 3″ Square Bar for Class 5 receivers i.e. F350 Super Duty – add $350
See “How to measure your hitch size diagram” diagram below.
Hitch Tube Length:
The hitch tube is the horizontal tube that extends from your hitch receiver. The standard length will be suitable for most styleside pickups and SUVs. However, you’ll need a longer hitch tube if you have a:
- Spare tire mounted on the rear door
- Rear door with jerry can holders
- Other accessories that obstruct the standard bar
We have a new “Hitch Extender” out that gives 6″ or 9″ extra length as well as 2″ lift or drop, depending on how you install it.
This lets you have the standard hitch tube length but add the extension on the vehilces that need it with a rock solid no movement connection in 2 minutes.
Note that extra 10″, 12″, 14″ are also available ex Australia with a 7-10 day delivery POA.

Ramp Length:
The ramp helps you easily load your bike onto the carrier. Choose a longer ramp if your vehicle has a lift kit or larger tires.
- 46″ Ramp (included): Suitable for most standard height SUVs and pickups
- 58″ Ramp: Ideal for vehicles with a moderate lift kit (2-4 inches) or if the hitch is over 22″ off the ground
- 68″ Ramp: Required for vehicles with larger lift kits or bigger tires
Important Safety Note
You must secure your motorcycle at a minimum of four points using MX tie-downs or ratchet straps attached to the frame, handlebars, triple clamp, or crash bars. This is essential for safety in the unlikely event of foot peg or hardware failure.
